Bubba and Clem are sitting around the dive center one afternoon when an old
Elvis tune comes on the radio, Its Heartbreak Hotel. Clem reminisces
about theys high school years when this here song were popular. Bubba gets reel
quiet and Clem just knowed that theys trouble in paradise when his lifelong pal
is quiet and moreso when he didn't want to go to the Varsity fer a dozen chili
dawgs.
Clem bes reel worried about hissen behemoth friend. Clem axes Bubba what be
the matter? Bubba just shakes his noggin and says he be ok. Yeah right, thank
Clem.
A week passes and Bubba don't wanna do nuthin and heck he don't want to
even have lunch. He just sits at his computer a staring at the screen.
Clem gets reel concerned about ole Bubba and he a sits him down and says to
Bubba "whats wrong?". Bubba is in a mood to talk to his buddy and he
splanes what be going on.
Bubba a tells Clem, "'member that lil gal from up North that he has
been a seeing for the last year?". Yep Clem knows the one. She has flew
down quite a few times to visit with Bubba and even went on a divin vacation
down to Cozumel with Bubba. Clem was along on that trip too. He knows her rerel
good too.
Well Bubba says that the lady done telled him that she don't wanna be a
flying down to see ole Bubba no mo. See it made her feel empty when she wented
back home.Seems that she thunk that Bubba weren't to keen on her cause he never
telled her that he loved her or that she made him reel happy an stuff like
that. This lady was head overen heals in love with Bubba. She thunk that Bubba
only wanted her for the weekends when she come down to Atlanta and was g;ad
when she wented home up north.
Truth of the matter be that Bubba was madly in love with this here special
little lady. But he was too dumb to let her know how he feeled. He wanted to
tell her that he loved her so many times but were afeared that it would run her
away. Bubba ain't no brain surgeon nohow, but this were the dumbest thang he
ever done did.
Clem only done seen Bubba cry once before, and that were at his daddy's
funeral. Most folks don't know that Bubba is a kind and tender man with a heart
of gold. Bubba don't admit that he cried when ole yeller died. He gets tears in
his eyes every time the National Anthem be sang at Braves games. He is just a
bog ole teddy bear. Bubba got them big aligater tears a running down his face
now as he telled Clem about his special lady friend.
Clem figgered that a dive adventure trip would get Bubba back to the real
world. He arranges for him and Bubba to fly over to Walker's Cay for a few
days. When he telled Bubba, Bubba says that he don't want to go that he rather
stay and look at the computer screen a hoping he would see his special lady
friend.
Clem just lets Bubba look at that computer screen and occasionally a big
ole tear will well up in his blue eyes.
