Bubba and Clem at DEMA 2
The boys get up reel early on the first day of the DEMA Show and then commence to wake the rest of theys friends up too. They want to be ready when the doors open at 9 o'clock. Bubba is having a reel hard time adjusting to the time zone change - when its 9 in the morning in New Awrlenes its 10 in Atlanta.
They proceed to walk over to Mother's Restaurant way over on Poydras Street to ate breakfast. Bubba thinks them New Awrlenes streets got reel funny names. It's a fair walk in the cold weather. Bubba, Clem, the Sorysota scuba man and Trip, his son all have a Mae's Omelet which has got Black ham, green onions and toadstools and comes with grits and biscuits whilst the Pittsburgh scuba woman and Jeannine have a Meat Biscuit served with debris. Bubba says he ain't gonna eat no debris - sounds more like sumthing the dog left.
After eating they head on over to the Convention Place and are there just as they open the doors. Theys got a plan to see the travel folks today and to go the the Sorysota scuba mans seminar on the Internet at half Past three. Then theys gonna hit the Quarter and do Bourbon Street.
They visit with a bunch of folks in the travel bidness that they know and sum theys wanna know. They meet with their friend Mike Musto of Trip N Tour, Ken Knezik of Island Dreams Travel, a friend of the Sorysota scuba man, and some resort owners they want to visit with. Then they find theys friends Brenda and Gary Adkison of Walker's Cay. They remissness with them and along comes Barry "Wendy" to join in. Theys book at trip to Walker's for September. Bubba ain't 'frade of them shark fish no more. Then they see old "Few" Parkey from Down in Belize and go and jaw with him and his beautiful wife, Teresa, for a spell.
Its lunch time and theys just go over to the Riverwalk Mall a next door to eat sum Cajun feed. The meal consists of jambalaya and bread puddin with a tall ice tea. Then its back to the Convention Place to see more travel and wait till half past 3 to see theys friends seminar.
Its about 3 o'clock when theys head up to the seminar room and they find a packed, standing room only room with over a hundred folks already there. Theys friend has a real near Power Point presentation with cool music and effects. The seminar last one hour and a quarter, but folks a stay to axe questions a nother hour. That scuba man sure can talk.
Its back to the Holiday Out via the shuttling bus to clean up and go for supper. Bubba wants sum good see feed for supper and the scuba woman from Pittsburgh recommends the Acme Oyster House over on Iberville Street for sum good feed. Heck it's only a block away anyhows. They invite Charlie "Thrill" Hill and his wife PJ to go as well as Johnny O'Horlan and Carol his girlfriend from Tamper, FL. Its only half past 5 so theys walk right in, this joint has a huge line after about half past six. The boys all have em a couple dozen oysters on the shell half. Trip orders red beans and rice with smoked sausage while everyone else gets the sea feed plate what has got oysters, shrimps and catfish all fried up reel good. Carol orders a heap of crawdads too and shares with everybody. A couple fellers add a soft shelled crab to theys plate for $8 more. Bread puddin with rum sauce is fer desert all around the table. This feed is wonderful to say the least.
Now they walk one block down Iberville and turn onto Bourbon Street and commence to go into the bowels of the French Quarter, the Vieux Carre.
As they meander down the filthy street theys see sum little boys a tap dancing fer tips. Bubba fills theys cigar boxes. Then they see sumthing that is might strange even for this disgusting place, a little feller what has got a bicycle wheel stuck to his head and is a spinning it whilst he tap danced. Wild place, this Bourbon Street. As they wander further into the bowels of the Quarter, they come upon a group of guys up on a gallery. Bet you don't know the difference betwenst a balcony and a gallery? Thrill Hill learnt it from a reel vampire last night when theys went on a tour of the Quarter with a vampire name of Chaz. Lot of weird stuff and haints and voodoo in the Quarter. Well anyhows, this group of fellers up on the gallery is a hurling beads down to the Bourbon Street where sum womens is a taking off theys shirts. Bubba is reel worried that theys gonna catch a cold. Naive, that Bubba. The others are a scrambling for a better view.
It getting late, about quarter to three and they all heads back to theys Holiday Out rooms and get sum sleep so theys ready to take on the DEMA thing again tomorrow.
