Joseph Young

Joseph Young  lived in Coweta County, GA.  His home was located at the SE corner of the intersection of what is now called Bear Creek Road and SR 34. His home has long been torn down. He lived in a log cabin built by the local Coweta Indians. Later this cabin was added on and expanded. My mother remembers seeing the old log walls from inside the house.

This was a common gathering place for friends and was called the "Joe Young Place". He raised cotton and corn on the fertile land.

Joe Young was a shoemaker during the war for southern independence. He was a very large man, too large to serve as a horse soldier.

He married Elizabeth Jane Speer of Fayette County, GA on June 21, 1850.

He and his wife are buried in the cemetery at WhiteOak ARP Church in Coweta County, GA, along with many members of the Young family.

A copy of his last will and testament is available.
