Tench Cemetery

Located off the North side of the road, Gordon Road,
about 1 mile E from the White Oak
ARP Church cemetery lies the old Tench family home cemetery.
The land is
privately owned and fenced.
The cemetery lies beneath a canopy of trees back from the
old house's location. The cemetery is surrounded by a stone wall about 3 feet
high. This is without a doubt the most peaceful and beautiful cemetery this
author has seen.
The
home has long been removed. My mother remembers some 70 years ago visiting the
old cemetery with her father, William
Fredrick Creagh Linch. At this time the old home was in ruin.
William Eugene Vincent Row ( the son of Eugene Row and
Martha Grace Linch, a daughter of Martha
Elvira Tench Linch ) removed the usable lumber and stone from the house to
build another house at another location.
This is the final resting-place of John Henry Tench and
his wife Martha Eleanor Gray Tench. Martha's will states she "wishes to be
buried in plain pine coffin and clothes that she commonly wore to church and
wishes "to be laid between my Jimmie and his father". Also laid to
rest there are Rubin Montmorenci Tench ( Sergeant in the Confederate Army ),
James Andrew Tench a Confederate soldier in the Newnan Georgia Guard ("A"
Co. GA
1st Volunteers ) and was killed in action in Monterey, Virginia on June 26,
1961. His grave is marked with a Veteran's Monument), Jane Russell ( 16 years
old ), Mary F Russell ( 2 years old ) and an unmarked grave.
